NewTV is a non-profit organization in Newton, MA that strives to provide the local community with an open platform for news, information, and opinions not generally available through commercial or public television. They operate three standard definition television channels and one high definition channel, which are designated for public, educational, governmental, or original content. The organization also offers a wide variety of well-structured classes that cover many topics important to television production, including studio elements, post production, lighting techniques, and documentary storytelling.
As classes and programs at NewTV grew in popularity, they realized they would need more space. Training programs were being held in the open edit area, which can only accommodate four people. The studio space was often used to host video screenings and events, which occupied valuable studio time and required a large amount of setup and breakdown time.
NewTV wanted to create a standalone screening room to increase the availability of their studio space, as well as a designated training area to accommodate a larges classes.
The new screening room needed to contain seating for 42 people, offer full HD capabilities with 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound, and feature a large projection screen. The projection system had to allow for every type of media input, so that the space could be used for movie screenings, seminars, lectures, and special events.
The training room needed to include 10 student workstations, an instructor station, and playback capabilities for instructional and student-created media.
High Output collaborated with NewTV to design a space that would meet all of the above criteria. The new screening room is ideal for movie showings, seminars, lectures and special events. Crestron audio and video controls were added to the lectern at the front of the room, which speakers can remotely operate from the lectern or anywhere else in the room.
The new training room has successfully become a multi-purpose area for classes, lectures, and functions, and NewTV is now able to offer its members access to training space and HD equipment seven days a week.
