Laura’s Center for the Arts

South Shore YMCA

Laura’s Center for the Arts is a state-of-the-art facility within the South Shore YMCA that includes a performance stage and seating, fine arts classrooms, and offices. One of the art center’s main attractions is the stage, purposely built on a lower level in order to reduce stage fright for the performers.

The design of the center posed a unique challenge, as the venue needs to be able to host both indoor and outdoor performances utilizing only one audio and lighting system. In addition, a creative solution was needed to incorporate a projection system into the main hall, which is lined with large windows and contains high levels of ambient light.

High Output was called in to design and install the lighting and audio system, stage curtains, and the video projection system. The team was able to help overcome the aforementioned challenges with the installation of double-sided window curtains. These curtains both darkened the room for projection purposed and served as a backdrop for the amphitheater outside.
